TEXTILE TUESDAY: Echoview Fiber Mill
Tuesday, August 2, 2016 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm| $10
Once each month, the Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator invites a sustainable textile vendor to come present their materials and processes. Join us for July’s Textile Tuesday featuring Echoview Fiber Mill with presenters: Julie Jensen, founder of the EVFM, joined by Grace Gouin and Allyson Ansusinha, members of the Echoview Team.
Echoview will discuss their journey as the first fiber mill built in North Carolina within the last 40 years, and the first textile mill in the country to be built with Gold LEED certification. The journey started with an eye on sustainability and the potential for transformational farming in the United States. Since opening in 2011, Echoview has transformed from a fiber process mill working with small fiber farmers into an innovative spinning and manufacturing hub. Our focus has sharpened to fill a big hole in the Made in the USA marketplace – machine knittable yarns made from beautiful blends of high quality wool and alpaca (not to mention even stranger fibers that we come across – possum anyone?). We love to push the limits of what kinds of yarns can be made available for designers that are responsible, traceable, unique and high quality, and we are excited to share what we have been making!
After the presentation join the Echoview team for a short PomPom making demonstration based on a fiber researching trip earlier this year in Peru using a colorful pallet of Echoview’s hand knitting yarns.
