NYFW at the BF+DA: Fashion=Activism explored Sept 14-20th

On September 14-20, 2015, the Brooklyn Fashion+Design Accelerator presents “FASHION=ACTIVISM: Rethink, Reuse, Respect,” an exhibit featuring work by artists, emerging local brands and big apparel brands that are determined to change how we think about what we wear. Offering a counterpoint to the traditional New York Fashion Week runway shows, the exhibit uses artifacts, garments, performance and media, to explore human rights, the impact of the industry on the environment and the need to support traditional cultures.

FASHION=ACTIVISM  is sponsored by Eileen Fisher and The North Face.

Daily tours of the exhibition include interactions with fashion activist and textile artist Liz Collins, creator of Knitting Nation who will be creating her sculpture over the week, a ongoing film festival featuring documentaries and PSAs about the apparel industry and a study center that allows visitors to dig deeper into the challenges faced by the apparel industry.
