BF+DA Knitwear Apprenticeship Open!

The Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator has just opened a spot in the Production lab (p.Lab) for a knitwear apprentice.

Apprenticeships give you the chance to work for an employer while gaining valuable workplace skills and experience. This 18-month long training will lead to an industry qualification that is respected by employers around the world. After completion, you will stay employed through the BF+DA or assistance will be available for Jr. Programming job placement.
Some of your duties will be to assist with sampling and small run production from a spool of yarn to final garment. You will also learn linking, steaming, hand finishing, knitting machine operating, quality control, and packing and prepping for customer delivery.
All work will be on our Shima Seiki Apex 3 with areas of focus on knitwear, technical design, fashion design, textile development and/or production.
COMMITMENT? 3 days a week for 7 hours each day (21 hours/week total)

SCHEDULE:
Months 1- 4: Learn to steam, mend and link
Months 4 - 8: Train to be a knitter - threading, cleaning, knitting and basic machine maintenance
Months 7 - 12: Start Apex training on SSR
Month 12: Travel to Japan for training
Months 13 - 18: Train as a programmer
SKILLS REQUIRED:
SDS-ONE (Apex3, Shima Seiki) but not necessary, Excel, Photoshop and Illustrator
