Textile Tuesday: Tengri Yak Wool Exhibit & Presentation
Tuesday, March 3, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm| Free
A yak wool exhibition by Tengri will take place Tuesday, March 3rd from 6-8 pm at the Brooklyn Fashion+Design Accelerator. This event is open to the public.
Nancy Johnston, CEO and Founder of Tengri will be on hand to discuss the various stages of the fiber from down to yarns and fabrics and of course, the end result of clothing.
The Tengri debut ‘Warrior’ Collection will be on display, along with visuals of iconic Mongolian landscapes. Designers and textile afficionados attending the event will have a chance to see the garments and textiles in advance of the presentation entitled ‘From Steppes to Streets.’ The video presentation provides an overview of Nancy’s journey in Mongolia for Tengri, how the company started and specific aspects of the fiber.
The presentation will last roughly 20-30 minutes followed by time for Q&A. The fabrics, down and yarns will be circulated for the audience to feel during the presentation.
“Tengri knitwear is designed and made in the UK, using Mongolian yak wool. We are a collective movement where design, fashion, ethics, business, environmental activism and individual consumer choice come together and do good. We aim to bring yak wool to the forefront of the global fashion industry through sustainable, eco-friendly and fairshare business.
Tengri is inspired by long-term thinking about the ecology, economy, people and spirit of Mongolia. Respect for the delicate balance between human existence and nature is at the heart of our approach. Working with cooperatives of herders, as well as spinning, processing and knitting companies, we aim to help preserve the Mongolian landscape and support nomadic herders’ way of life.”
