TEXTILE TUESDAY: Norlha Textiles

Once each month, we invite a sustainable textile vendor to come present their materials and processes. Join us for March’s Textile Tuesday with Norlha Textiles to learn more about sourcing yak fiber, the storytelling behind a brand as well as an interesting tale of how the company is bringing a younger generation back to the Tibetan Plateau.

Norlha designs, produces and sells timeless yak textiles made by nomads on the Tibetan Plateau, one of the most remote and fragile environments on the planet. Their atelier is located at 3200 meters above sea level in the village of Zorge Ritoma, Autonomous Prefecture of Gansu Province, China. The region is home to 1,500 nomads, 6,000 yaks and 20,000 sheep. Using local knowledge from Tibet, India, Nepal, Cambodia and China, Norlha has developed its own proprietary process to transform yak fiber into the next generation of luxury textiles. At Norlha, yak becomes an exceptional, luscious, durable and fashionable fiber.

Now 120 employees strong, the company upholds a high standard of quality, tradition and sustainability that every member of the Norlha team is proud to stand behind.
Norlha is also both a factory and a brand producing for luxury European houses and selling their own brand online and to special retail stores stores such as Bergdorf Goodman, Urban Zen, Dara Artisans, Spirit Santa Fe and Infaces Japan, among many others.
