SUMMARY:Food+Fashion Book Signing & 'Leather' Tasting with Katja Gruijters
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a truly one of a kind event in collaboration with the Pratt Institute and Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator with food designer Katja Gruijters and Judith van den Boom\, Department Head at Product Design at ArtEZ University of the Arts\, Arnhem\, in the Netherlands. This lecture is generously being sponsored by Pratt Institute and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.\n\nKatja's lecture will focus on the idea of obesity across industries\, looking at how we as consumers have become "overweight" from the over-consumption of fashion\, food and information. We'll start out with a "Welcome Chrysanthemum Tea" accompanied by chocolate lace tiles made by Katja\, followed by a book signing of Food Design\,"leather tastings" and a takeaway recipe card with dried chrysanthemum tea to make at home.\n\nSchedule:\n\nWelcome Chrysanthemum Tea/Book Signing: 6-6:30 pm\nFood design lecture/Q&A: 6:30-7:30 pm\nBook signing: 7:30-8 pm\n\nGeneral public: $20\nEmerging and Studying members: $15\nPioneering members: $10\nAll Pratt students with student ID: free\n\nMember discount will show up in the cart.\n\nRSVP below.\n\n\n\nAbout Katja Gruijters:\n\nKatja Gruijters has specialized in food and drink design since graduation at the Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands. Since 2001\, she has worked in her own studio\, designing food experiments\, concepts\, tasting events and products. She has been commissioned by companies in the Netherlands and abroad and she is involved in education.\n\n\n\n"Leather tasting"\n\nAbout Judith van den Boom:\nJudith van den Boom's methods on research\, design and learning are inspired by her approach as practical idealist. She is an avid lecturer and has worked with institutes in Germany\, the US\, the UK\, China and Canada. She received her masters at the Royal College of Art in London (UK) and since working as designer\, lecturer and head of the Product Design department at ArtEZ Institute of the Arts\, initiating forward thinking vision and programs to deliver a new generation that builds new practices. Judith's work stems from an pro-active mentality to work together on the expanding consciousness and roles of designers in today’s rapidly transforming environmental\, technological\, social\, and cultural landscapes.
