UN’s General Assembly-Bangladesh Summit 2016

The Prime Minister, Minister of the Economy and the Foreign Trade Minister of Bangladesh as well as NYC-based chambers of commerce, banks, industry associations, university representatives, small businesses and the Brooklyn Fashion+Design Accelerator’s very own Managing Director Deborah Alden will be at the UN’s General Assembly-Bangladesh Summit 2016.

Speakers will give presentations on topics that support Bangladesh particularly in terms of economic development. One of the industries to be discussed at the event is fashion. As Bangladesh is a manufacturing based, response economy aiming to differentiate away from providing primarily low cost labor inputs, there is interest in learning ways to move up the value chain. From garment manufacturing to contributing to fashion design and innovation, learning about the work of fashion innovators in the U.S. and efforts to nurture them (such as incubators and accelerators) would not only give Bangladesh a window into how to provide greater value to the U.S. marketplace and partner with innovative U.S. businesses but also how to help seed an innovation based culture and economy.

This summit will enable the larger audience to learn how to support the development of Bangladesh’s industries, where the fashion industry in the U.S. may be headed, and how U.S./Bangladeshi businesses could innovate together to generate 21st century business opportunities.
