TEXTILE TUESDAY: Fibershed Discusses Wool & Fine Fiber Book
Tuesday, June 7, 2016 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm| $10
Once each month, we invite a sustainable textile vendor to come present their materials and processes. Join us for June’s Textile Tuesday with a virtual Rebecca Burgess, founder of Fibershed. That’s right, she’ll be coming in live from California by way of Skype and though on her farm and not in the same room, she’ll be able to answer any questions you have.
Rebecca just launched The Wool & Fine Fiber Book, a collection of tactile samples showcasing regional wool and other fine fibers, with details about quality and availability. Fibershed is producing this series of books as part of an ongoing education and economic development program where they “seek to expand and illuminate the potentials of regional ‘soil-to-skin’ production and drive a healthy demand for fibers grown in our home communities.”
Mission of Fibershed: Fibershed develops regenerative textile systems that are based on carbon farming, regional manufacturing, and public education Vision: We envision the emergence of an international system of regional textile communities that enliven connection and ownership of ‘soil-to-soil’ textile processes. These diverse textile cultures are designed to build soil carbon stocks on the working landscapes on which they depend, while directly enhancing the strength of regional economies. Both fiber and food systems now face a drastically changing climate, and must utilize the best of time-honored knowledge and available science for their long-term ability to thrive.
